Dr. Rana Manzoor Ahmad

Dr. R. M. Ahmad has completed his doctorate degree in October, 2018 under supervision of Dr. Abdul Majid Khan from Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab, Lahore. In his PhD research work he provided the enamel hypoplasia based reference data on the ecological preference of artiodactyl families that were present in prehistoric ecosystems of Pakistan. Prior to these ecological studies he has also worked on medical genetics and completed his MPhil thesis on the molecular basis of GTCS (type of epilepsy) in Pakistani patients. Currently he is working on the ecological preferences of extant as well as extinct mammals by using different ecological proxies i.e. enamel hypoplasia. His research interest also includes the ecological and environmental explanations for mammalian extinction events. As evolution is not only a core field of classical zoology but is also a road map for the applied researches and innovations that are related with kingdom Animalia so R. M. Ahmad is also working on the evolution of the Neogene mammals by using their dental features and ecological pressures faced by these animals.
